Well,
despite myself, I am beginning to get very excited about this holiday. To the point that every time I venture out
of my front door, I am compelled to check the ‘list’ for little bits and pieces
I might ultimately need to pack.
Don’t
get me wrong, I’m a long way from buying all the ‘big’ things either, but they
have to be spaced out according to when I get paid when you live on a
shoestring.
So
now that I have procured a new ‘poke-your-eyes-out’ lime green suitcase,
unmissable on any luggage carousel, its time to consider what I will be putting
in that little baby.
And
the first place I started was to dig through the ‘going somewhere cabinet’ that
houses all my travel goodies for anything that might be useful. Down on my hands and knees and head right inside
the antique cabinet that sits by my bedroom door, I unearthed the universal
battery charger… check. The video
camera… nup, that can stay home this time.
The American Motorola to loan to one of my travel companions…
check. The tube of travel clothes
washing liquid…check. The left over
notes and coins from last time for food or tips on arrival… check.
But
nowhere to be seen were the two things I really HAVE to have. My adaptor plug for the myriad of electrical
goodies I’ll not be leaving home without.
And the TSA approved locks for my case…
Nowhere,
nope, nada.
Gone.
So
I’m guessing I loaned them to someone at some point and will have to replace
both which I’m not all that happy about.
But
the gathering hasn’t stopped there… oh no.
I
have gathered hair products, make up, travel sized skincare and a radio-wave
safe wallet for my precious cards. I’ve
even gone through my stash of ‘sample sachets’ to see what might be useful.
I’ve
gathered the travel first aid essentials… which I guess isn’t as impressive as
it sounds with little more than ginger tablets, ‘stopper’ and a few
bandaids. But none the less… its
there.
I've even gathered some widgets for my blog just so you know what time it is at home and where I will be.
However,
I’m not going to bother with clothing till much closer to the time, just in
case I am svelte by then ;)
The
scary part is, that I’ve just checked my list and I’ve barely made a dent into
the essentials.
This
one suitcase idea has whiskers on it really.
I’ve never done it before.
The plan though, is to take one suitcase over,
and buy another one over there and just pay for the extra luggage on my return
like I did last time. I know that I will
barely fit all the essential stuff in the first one, and the second will be for
‘goodies’ that just happen to accumulate when you are there - shopping being
integral to most women’s idea of the perfect holiday. Again, its that gathering gene. Now, if I could find a man that also
holidays along those lines he would be stamped very quickly as ‘perfect’.
So
with exactly three months until I fly out on my next adventure, I am in the
‘still time to diet, still time to shop, still time to get a new look’ zone of
preparation. Which I kind of like, cos
you still have options… talk to me in a month and a certain amount of panic
will be setting in to ensure all my ducks are in a row.
